I just spent 2 weeks visiting the project in Sandangan and witnessing the exciting developments as the Janice McKay Community Centre nears completion. Children are now enjoying classes in the building and have started a new school year with brand new backpacks, 2 pairs of thongs and a raincoat to keep out the monsoonal showers! It certainly is now a real centre for community life.
Peter Starr and I also continued our series of strategic meetings with government and community leaders to hopefully bring much needed economic development to these isolated tribal regions by involving Australian business in rural activities.
